RAG is finally back to its original glory this year, and the ladies at Wag-‘n-Bietjie Ladies Residence are putting their heart and soul into it! This year’s theme is MEGA-RETRO-FUT-ILLUSION and the RAG committee has BIG things planned!
The weekend of the 24th of February, the RAG team had to create and complete one of the
side panels of the float. Working with Laureus, and our Sleep name being “BIETJIE LAUd”,
the RAG team incorporated that into their design.
The side panel was created using the usual steel and mesh framework and pushing little
blue, green, silver and gold plastic flowers through it. The different shades of blue and green,
as well as the little half-moon shapes of gold and silver are supposed to represent the sound
waves created by two papermaché speakers. The lettering was also created using
papermaché, and it is painted to look like vibrations caused by the loud sound waves.
The flowers were folded and pushed in by the first years as a fun little activity during R&O.
The interesting design required a lot of flowers though, and thus the seniors were also put to
work, most of them staying up till three in the morning to contribute!
The RAG team is very proud of the design so far, and they cannot wait to eventually start on
the whole float.
The building team and the carvers will return to the residence from 18 to 25 July and then RAG will take place in the first week of the third term. The building team, as well as the carvers, have their work cut out for them, but they
are excited and up to the challenge!

And now, I think it is finally time to introduce you all to the brilliant RAG team:
First off, we have Elri van der Merwe, who is the RAG HC.
Elri is very devoted and a great leader!
She does everything in her power to make you feel welcome and wanted in this committee and it is an absolute honour to work alongside her!
There are three subcommittees working underneath Elri. The “Blommetjies” committee, the
“Bouspan” and the “Verf &Kerf” committee.

So far RAG has been a great experience, but this year we are throwing a bit of madness into
the mix. Whilst keeping our roots in mind, we are excited about what the future holds, and
it’s no illusion as to what Wag-‘n-Bietjie can accomplish!
RAG 2022 is going to be HUGE and we can’t wait for all of our ladies to be a part of it!
