R & O 2022
For the first time in about two years, the first years of Wag-‘n-Bietjie Ladies Residence had a somewhat normal R&O. They had fun sessions on the Amphitheatre, sang their hearts out and discovered what it meant to be a true Wag-‘n-Bietjie lady.
R&O is supposed to be the best time of your life (that you never what to experience ever again!). This R&O, our HC made sure to give the ladies some everlasting memories, and friendships.
The first years were good sports and learned all about our traditions, the campus and the amazing student life NWU Potchefstroom has to offer.
For first year, Carla Doné Viljoen, R&O was a very exciting, but challenging time. She had to do things she never thought of and work very hard. For her, R&O was quite hard at some times, because it felt like she wasn’t a part of this wonderful residence yet.
But it was at that time that they grew closer as a group.
Carla said that one of the highlights of R&O ’22 was the First Years Concert, which she considered as one of the best times in R&O! She also agreed that the Amphi-sessions and spirit of being there with her fellow first years was definitely one for the books. “But the best experience was the night we found out we were allowed to wear our Wag-‘n-Bietjie shirts and thumb hats!”

It was a time of very little sleep, lots of laughs, new friendships and something she will never forget. “R&O was, without a doubt, one of the best times of my life!”
During the times some of the girls were practising for the First Years Concert, a lot of ladies helped to fold the plastic flowers for RAG. Fun memories were definitely also made there! Carla said that folding those flowers were worth every cut on her fingers!

Deputy Primaria, Tiónne Wiid also gave us some insights into R&O 2022. Tiónne stated R&O was an amazing experience, she was very happy that R&O could feel a bit more normal this year. Just like Carla, the Amphi-sessions were a huge highlight for her as well. She said you could not compete with the vibe, and the artists performing were also rather
Tiónne further said that the other highlights didn’t necessarily include specific events, but rather the amount of heart and soul that the first years poured into this time! She really appreciated how the first years shaped and pushed through with everything they tried. They truly gave it their all to do what was asked of them to make their HC proud. Even though they didn’t get that much sleep, it really stood out to her how none of them had a negative attitude about anything and still tried to participate in everything, even if it wasn’t compulsory!

Tiónne said that it meant a lot to her as Deputy Primaria and First Years HC member to see the positive attitude that the HC could plant in the first years. “It was a huge privilege to be a part of this and to see the growth of the first years every day!”
She also mentioned that the “aksies” with various men’s residences were super fun. She said it was very funny to see the first years get really into actually interacting with the men, and how they would take dressing up or having a pretend identity to the next level! She was also very impressed with the talent these ladies have, and how well they adjusted, with an insane amount of spirit, to whatever they were attempting.
The first years truly shaped and we are immensely proud of each and every one of them!
R&O is always a great experience and we are so happy to officially welcome all the first years to our Wag-‘n-Bietjie family!
