  First Year's Dine, soo divine!

We’re all dressed up with somewhere to go!

When there’s a reason to dress up nothing can keep the Wag- ‘n-Bietjie ladies away. Despite the lab sessions and numerous tests than ended mere minutes before the departure to the First Years Dine, the ladies got all dressed up and arrived with enough energy to run Eskom for a week.

The theme for the First Years Dine 2022 was Alice in Wonderland and the theme couldn’t have been a better fit! The dine took place on 16 March around 18h30 and was hosted at Snowflake.

It truly is a matter of style. I was absolutely stunned by the immense beauty and grace that radiated from every single Wag- ‘n-Bietjie lady during the photoshoot. With pride I stood among my sisters as the camera lights flashed and the vibe was truly “lekker”. I especially loved our corridor photoshoot, I would say that my corridor is the best, but I’ll leave that

Let’s talk about our beautiful HC members. While standing amongst my fellow first years, I could hear the slight whispers of admiration. They looked absolutely gorgeous in their all-black dresses and I can say with certainty that they are our inspiration and our pride.

Wag-‘n-Bietjie, so divine, never seen with a bottle of wine - because Wag-‘n-Bietjie ladies don’t sip from bottles. Wag-‘nBietjie definitely stands out above other ladies’ residences. Every single Wag-‘n-Bietjie lady gracefully sipped from their glasses like true ladies do. I would also like to add that not a single Wag-‘n-Bietjie lady behaved in a drunk or irresponsible manner.

The First Year’s Dine was truly a weird yet exciting experience. I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that we are all grown up now. The dine gave me flashbacks to high school sokkies, but this time there were men with beards, a bar that sells alcohol and I didn’t have to WhatsApp my mother every hour to set her at ease. The highlight of the night was to finally sing “Blommetjie” with our HC members

With pride, we held our thumbs in the air as we sang at the top of our lungs. With my thumb in the air, I couldn’t help but think back to us wearing our thumb hats during R&O and I realized that this is my new home, I don’t need to hitchhike back to my mother’s house. Our slepies are just too cute! As we sang our residence song and yelled our chant Laureus made a circle around us and joined in. Our voices echoed through the room, and I guess you can say we were BietjieLaud. All and all the dine was a hug success!

Just like every snowflake has a unique pattern, the dancing and singing on Snowflake’s dusty and sticky floor is a unique memory that I will treasure forever.
