First and foremost, a thank you is in order to the HC for doing such an amazing job during zoep week, and landing us our LAUvly sleepies. How LAUcky are we?
To recount on what zoep week was like, we spoke to one of the HC’s. Zoep week definitely exceeded their expectations.
“We gave some fun themes like ‘Hawaiian’ and ‘Funky Socks’ for our aksies and we played pool. We drew on Villagers clubhouse and we made some fun videos.”
It was very fun and exhilarating, yet exhausting due to the amount of admin. How did the men’s residences zoep for us though?
According to the HC, Laureus put in the most effort, which is no surprise seeing that they are indeed our sleepies!
Laureus is all about tradition. They had a special tradition aksie with the HC. Laureus also gave the HC cute nicknames, but what is the meaning behind it?
“Laureus has a tradition where they give all their first years a nickname which is specific to that person. So, during zoep week, they gave us nicknames in good faith because we didn’t yet know if we were going to sleep with them. We don’t know the meaning behind them though. We will only find out at the trou aksie or at the end of our term!”
One of the most memorable experiences the HC got to walk away with was when
Villagers decided to book Bourbons out and sing to them.From what we hear,
it was so special that the HC were overwhelmed by this sweet
gesture. Villagers, jy’s perd, jy’s perd, jy’s puuure perd!
Hombré knew the way to a woman’s heart is through her stomach.
The cutest way they zoeped for us was by organising sandwiches
and a fun slip-and-slide day for our ladies.
They had lots of fun, and Hombré really put an immense amount of effort into their zoep.
The Hombré aksie was definitely a memorable one.
Although De Wilgers impressed our ladies during zoep week, we have a funny story regarding them. One day our HC drove past Laureus, and a bunch of men were standing there. So obviously they assumed it was Laureus. They started singing “La-, La-, La-, Laureus!” at the top of their lungs and with so much enthusiasm, only to find out that the men were actually from De Wilgers! And do you know what De Wilgers response to that was? One of their men flashed our ladies!
One of the sweetest things that had all of the HCs smiling from ear to ear was when the sleep announcement happened. They all got little clues to say where they could meet their sleepies, and ours was the Amphi. “We ran from the law building, past Laureus, to the amphi and we hid. When Laureus got there, we jumped out and everyone started hugging each other and there was some crying because we were just so thankful that it was Laureus.”
Overall, we are happy with how zoep week turned out and it really is a treat living next to Laureus.
It adds to the convenience because it only takes a cup of coffee and a few steps outside to meet with them and discuss matters.
“We are hopefully going to be able to use the grass area (between Kom-en-Gaan and Laureus) for some little sleep aksies because it’s like our own private area.”
