IT'S A MATTER OF SPORT
“Dames en here, Wag-‘n-Bietjie het punte!”
It feels weird to hear those words again, for the first time in two years. Yes, two years! Covid truly robbed us of so many awesome activities and I am so excited for the somewhat normal year to come.
The first years’ soccer tournament is an event of the past but the memories these girls made on that field will last an eternity.
“It was one of those memories that I will keep forever…”-Milay
In Wag-‘n-Bietjie the vibe is always lekker, “…blasting music on our way back from soccer practice…”-Maderi
The soccer girls worked their skilpaddoppe off, their amazing coaches even organized one-on-one training sessions to ensure that these (mostly first time) soccer players play with confidence and skill.
The finals for third or fourth place against Kasteel was a tough game and overall
Wag-‘n-Bietjie ended in fourth place! This is a huge achievement for Wag-‘n-Bietjie since WnB has never achieved a 4th place in first year’s soccer!!!
“If it weren’t for the penalty shootouts, WnB would surely have taken 2nd place”, Francelle Cato says.
“Hop-hop skilppaddop, die bal het in die net gehop!”
I have never seen a netball move that fast. These girls must
have incredible spider skillie senses.
I loved watching the netball (and soccer) at the R&O Sportsday.

The girls were on fire – no wonder it was hot that day – and the girls on the pavilions had so much spirit!
“Wag-‘n-Bietjie! Wag, Wag-‘n-Bietjie!”
A chant difficult to scream when you are sitting on the edge of your seat- don’t you think? The ball flew from one side of the court to the other and the score board was forever changing, spectators could not keep up!
Shoutout to Sanmarie Visser who made it into the NWU Netball team! We are also very proud of all the ladies who participated in the NWU Netball trials. You are all shapers keeping Wag-‘n-Bietjie’s name high!
“Hop-hop skilpaddop, julle moet vir Wag-‘n-Bietjie passop!”
Table tennis, an iconic game that you can never play because the ping pong balls are always used for beer pong.
Not here.
The Wag-‘n-Bietjie ladies’ table tennis matches continued deep into the night. When I close my eyes I can still hear the sound of ping pong balls hopping over nets.
Table Tennis definitely isn’t an easy game but these ladies kept the ball on the table effortlessly despite the lack of equipment due to our move to Kom-en-Gaan.
Elodi Visser, another shaper (among the many), was the only first-year on the Table Tennis
team and managed to place first.
“I always play table tennis at home but not for real…it was just for fun.”-Elodi
Moral of the story: Have fun, ladies!

The hockey girls were a scarce phenomenon with their early morning practices. Our ladies truly work hard and play even harder. “The first-year hockey tournament took place over a short period of time…nevertheless the girls left their hearts on the field!”-Francelle Cato
If you missed these sport events because you were busy studying (we know you sit behind your books 24/7) there’s no reason to fret. There are many more sport activities to look forward to!
The Wag-‘n-Bietjie golf league will commence on 1 April and the Wag-‘n-Bietjie badminton practice and trials will start on 28 March. She’s a runner, she’s a track star if this sounds like you, join the Wag-‘n-Bietjie athletics team 7 April. We are also very excited for the ladies' touchies that will start soon!
Francelle Cato is the sport HC for the term 2022 and her love for sport radiates through everything she does. She has a passion for sport and wants to eradicate injustice in sport as far as possible. She believes everyone deserves equal opportunities.
“Never hesitate whether you are good or not, maybe you will just find your talents and gifts. When you run out on that field, do it only for God!” Francelle Cato says.
